“I just had coffee this morning.” Julia Capuano, on this particular morning, is even more smiley than usual—a feat no one thought was possible.  Her face, that of someone with a lot of energy and of someone who doesn’t normally drink coffee, is complete with a wide, sunny grin.

Julia’s smile, something that appears quite often, lights up the room. It’s hard to see Julia when she isn’t smiling– one of the many things that make her so cool. She’s one of those people who is unintentionally funny; she can make people feel good and laugh just by being herself.

“I think she is very nice; really cool personality, very down to earth. She just loves everybody and everything,” said junior Noah Chait.

Her kindness is what sets her apart from most people. Her genuine personality makes her so likeable. Julia is very humble– when I first told her about doing this profile story, she simply asked, “Why?” She’s reluctant to tell people that she is the president of the Environmental Club, because she doesn’t like the title.

Julia may come off as a very shy person, but once you get to know her, you’ll see how “one of a kind” she is. She’s not one to get mad very often–almost never. But if you do see her mad, it will always be for a good reason.

Julia plans on going into sustainable agriculture. Under her leadership, the Environmental Club has grown and has made significant progress in making Verona greener. She set up a bird house, and is in the process of growing a garden in the court yard, and opening it up for lunch. She regularly attends the Verona Environmental Commission meetings, and has plans to one day own her own farm.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading, knitting, going on a run, listening to music, and playing hacky-sack or hockey—she has a mean shot. Her passion for protecting the environment is what really sets her apart.

“Julia is so cool because she has all these goals and when she cares about something, she’s so passionate. Also, she’s a great friend—she’s the only person I know who likes Avril Lavigne as much as I do,” said senior Mira Braneck.

Julia Capuano: Hockey fanatic, hacky-sacker, semi-pro knitter,  champion of the environment, and, most of all, kindest, sunniest person you’ll ever meet.
