Possibly one of Verona’s most underrated sports teams, the varsity girls’ volleyball excelled throughout their season this year. They ended their season by making school history, winning the Group 1 Section B State tournament.

The team finished with an impressive record of 32 wins and only 2 loses. They took home the trophy for the American Division Conference as well as for the Essex County division. The players worked hard in the off season and have used those skills to increase the team’s overall skill level. The team couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments.

Senior captain Caitie Kenneally said, “Volleyball has always been a big part of my life and I’m very excited that the successful season this year is making it a bigger part of Verona High School’s community. I would like to thank all of the parents for their continuous support as well as my teammates for making so many amazing memories so far. Lastly I would like to thank all the fans for supporting us throughout the season and coming to our games, both home and away.”

Middle hitter for the team, Hunter Coppola said, “This being my first season on varsity, the standard has been set pretty high but all the girls on the team are willing to work hard to accomplish our goals.” Some of the girls on the team will continue their volleyball season through the winter playing on club teams to improve their skills and hopefully bring something new to the table for next year.

Volleyball’s biggest fan, senior football captain Austin Camp said: “These girls are better than any other volleyball team I’ve ever seen. I love going to their games after a hard day’s work at football practice. It makes me feel like I am at the Olympics.” The turnout for the games was incredible and the team is grateful for that. While the season has come to a close, it is no doubt that this volleyball season will go down in school history as one of the best seasons ever.
