2019 has started and so have the new fashion trends of the year. Start the year out in style by checking the biggest runway looks of the season. Here is a list of some of the major trends to wear in the new year.

  1. Sherpas and Padded Jackets– With the freezing cold weather and snow approaching, it’s a blessing that sherpa and padded jackets are a major trend this winter. Curl up inside or brace the outdoors in heavy jackets. Many brands including Chanel and Dior have been showing these coats on the runway.
  2. Plaid and Checkered Print– The classic plaid and checkered print are still in this season. Many of these fabrics are colorblocked, usually using reds, yellows, and blues.  Brighten up your look and stand out with plaid and checkered patterns.
  3. Sweaters and Knit Material– Cozy and comfortable sweaters and knitwear are on trend this year. Many are oversized and bulky. Be in style, while wearing warm and snug sweaters. Collections from Chanel and Hermes contain many sweaters and knitwear.
  4. Leopard Print- Since the 1960s, this print made appearances on runways and become a trend of different seasons, including this winter 2019. Create a fun look by wearing leopard print shirts, pants, scarfs, or jackets. Brands such as Dolce & Gabbana have taken this trend to the runway.
  5. Velvet– This soft and smooth material will not only keep you in style this season, but keep you warm. Velvet remains a classic winter fabric, usually appearing in darker tones.
  6. Denim– The classic denim look is not sitting out this season. Denim jackets, shirts, and jeans are an always popular trend and make a simple, chill look.
  7. Leather Coats– Leather coats are always popular in the winter and fall and this winter is no exception. Long leather coats can completely transform an outfit and are a great item to have this winter.
  8. Purple and Lilac– The color of the winter 2019 has proved to be purple. Purple has been appearing in many of the runway shows in all different shades, but mainly lilac. This bright color is a contrast to the usual dark and neutral tones that take control of our wardrobes in the winter.
  9. Florals– Even though the snow and cold have covered all the flowers, no one can stop us from wearing them on our clothes. Floral prints on skirts and dresses are all the rage this season. Brands like Gucci and Balenciaga have had many clothes in floral patterns on the runway.
  10. Diamonds and Sequins– Step into the new year glittering with diamond and sequin material. Create a bold, sparkling look by wearing sequin tops or diamond pants and dresses. The Gucci and Armani collections showed many pieces with diamonds and sequins.
