Tumblr

Many people know the history of Facebook, but does anyone really know the history of Tumblr?

Tumblr is a micro blogging platform and social network that allows users to post photos, blogs, and videos. As Facebook begins to slowly lose touch with this generation, Tumblr is becoming more popular.

It was first found in February 2007 by David Karp and is now owned by Yahoo.

David Karp announced as of October 1, 2013 that Tumblr has over 139.4 million blogs and more than 62.8 billion posts.

The start process of Tumblr began in 2006 when Karp and developer, Marco Arment, started working on a blogging platform which was launched a year later. Within two years of Tumblrs’ launch it gained 75,000 users.

In May, 2013 Yahoo bought Tumblr for 1.1 billion dollars, but Karp still stayed CEO. He says over 86.1 million posts are created each day on Tumblr and that Tumblr is mostly used by teen and college aged- students. Also,  53.5% of users are females.

Tumblr user Briana Tedesco says “I love my Tumblr account I go on it every single day. It’s a place I can go and post anything I want, without being judged.”

Many people claim Tumblr is a place where they can express their feelings and write about anything they want. It is also a great site to find some amazing pictures that people post.

Although many love Tumblr, some dislike it. The Digital Millennium Copyright Association (DMCA) shared that mostly every picture posted is a copyright from others. “Tumblr users are able to post content that isn’t their own by “reblogging.” “Reblogging” is a feature on Tumblr which allows users to re-post content that they found on another blog onto their own,” says owner of DMCA. Many people post pictures on Tumblr that found from other websites without using the source the found it from.

Regardless of varying opinions, Tumblr is different from the usual social networking because it is a place to get away from the real world.
