Is It Possible to Find Love on the Bachelor?

According to The Guardian, 80 percent of American citizens watch reality television. The Bachelor is an American reality television dating show. It has spin off shows such as the Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise, and the Bachelor Pad. The goal of these shows is to find true love, but is it really possible?

In order to be eligible for casting, one must be single for at least two months before the show. This ensures that everyone is going into this experience with the right attitude. Even though there is this precaution, some people feel that it is still impossible to find love. Obviously when the producers cast, they cast all different personalities to make the show entertaining, but they do make sure that there are contestants who are compatible with the Bachelor or Bachelorette.

When asked if he could find love on the Bachelor, Biology teacher Casey Harris responded, “Everyone is there for personal situations, but I like to think that if put in that situation I could do it.” Similarly, Julia Ashley says, “If you have the personality to be in that situation, it is definitely possible to find love.”

Others do not think that it is possible to find love. Graphics teacher, Helene McKelvey says, “How could you be yourself on camera?” Business education teacher Mitchell Roshong echoes Mrs. McKelvey’s thoughts saying, “it’s all for ratings; it’s all scripted.”

Whether you believe it is possible to find love on the Bachelor or not, the show has produced a number of lasting relationships. Anne Lueders and Jesse Scinack from the Bachelor Pad married and have a son. Also from the Bachelor Pad came Tenley Molzahn and Kiptyn Locke who are currently together and have been together for three years. From season one of the Bachelorette, Trista Rehn married Ryan Sutter and have been married for ten years had have two children. Most recently from Season Seven on the Bachelorette, Ashley Hebert and JP Rosenbaum moved in together after the Final Rose and are now happily married. Season Six of the Bachelor, Byron Velvick proposed to Mary Delgado at the final rose ceremony. The couple married and lasted six years before divorcing.

The Final Rose ceremony is where the decision about moving forward in a relationship is made. It is evident that some people have found love through this show and others have walked away at the Final Rose.

The Bachelor and its spin off shows provides a very public venue to meet people and possibly fall in love. If you were chosen to be on one of these shows, could you open your heart and see past the reality aspect of it to find love?
