Keeping Up With “Keeping Up”

If you haven’t heard about the infamous Kylie Jenner, Jordyn Woods, Khloe Kardashian, Tristan Thompson drama, you’re practically out of the pop culture loop entirely. Almost exactly one month ago, news broke that Kylie Jenner’s well-known best friend Jordyn Woods was caught cheating with Tristan Thompson- the father of Khloe Kardashian’s baby. If these names are unfamiliar to you, imagine it this way: your lifelong best friend hooked-up with your sister’s husband-not the best situation. The news shook the pop culture world and spread like wildfire all over the internet.

With relative silence from both Kylie and Khloe’s ends after the news broke, with the exception of a couple cryptic instagram stories and vague tweets, the world of Kardashian fans were on the edge of their seats waiting for an explanation. Luckily for the fans, the season premier of season 16 of the hit reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians was just around the corner. The only way to find out if the drama would be addressed was to tune in to E this past  Sunday at 9pm, but in case you didn’t, here’s the rundown of the season premiere of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

The show began with a bang with the show’s traditional montage of clips of the family and sneak peak into what the season has in store. This time, however, the montage was centered around Khloe -often in tears- talking about the fallout of her and crying things like “liar” and “you destroyed my family”. Though we don’t know who she’s directly talking to, this opening montage let the viewers know that the Tristan and Jordyn drama would not be overlooked.

The action and insight into the world of Kardashian’s didn’t stop after the opening montage. The episode begins with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West announcing to the whole family that their surrogate is pregnant and they are having a fourth baby. In addition, we got a first look into the life of Khloe Kardashian’s new daughter True and Khloe’s new life as a mom before the Jordyn drama occurred and the family was turned upside down.

The majority of the episode actually takes place in Chicago rather than its traditional location in Calabasas, California. Kanye needed to go to Chicago for work, so Kim and Kanye took their eldest daughter North to Chicago to show her where her father grew up. This episode shows us way more of Kanye than we usually get, including his first KUWTK interview and insight into some of the drama in his life, which is what the majority of the episode revolves around.

The episode handles Kanye’s feud with his lifelong friend Rhymefest. It is explained that Rhymefest was there for Kanye when he was going through a financial crisis and that the two had always been friends. However, after Kanye opened the charity “Donda’s House” in honor of his mother and invited Rhymefest to be a large part of the process and even invited him to help work on his album but fell short on going through with Rhymefest’s requests, Rhymefest went on Twitter and publicly bashed Kanye, starting an online fued between Kanye and Kim and Rhymefest.

Kanye explains that he forgave Rhymefest, but Kim is less willing to let go. The episode focuses around Kanye and Kim trying to see each other’s sides on the issue and ends with the couple sitting down with Rhymefest and settling their differences.

In a more lighthearted subplot, the family matriarch MJ, Kris Jenner’s mom, spends some quality time with Scott Disick- family friend and father to Kourtney Kardashian’s children. The two get along swimmingly and Scott discusses how he sees MJ as a mother figure, bringing a lighthearted and sweet energy to a somewhat tense episode. But as we now, there always has to be SOME drama. Scott and MJ’s growing connection prompts some jealousy from Kris and forces the mother daughter pair to hash out their communication problems.

And what would an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s be without a display of unattainable lavish luxury! The episode also features a party to celebrate Kourtney Kardashian’s newly singled lifestyle at the $12 million summer house Kris bought for the family. Because what else can you do when your sister gets broken up with than an impromptu trip to your summer mansion!

The season premiere of Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s was nothing short of action packed, drama filled, and luxuriously extravagant. From beginning to end, the episode showed us just enough drama and details to both satisfy fans’ hunger for juicy gossip and leave the viewers waiting for me. As for if the Jordyn-Tristan drama gets addressed or if we’ll get to see any blow out fights or hear any more best-kept secrets, we’ll just have to keep keeping up with “Keeping Up”.
