‘Senioritis’ Aiborne in Verona

I can’t think of a good introduction for this article and I really don’t feel like thinking of one. Why? Senioritis. It’s everywhere and it’s spreading fast, especially in the cold winter months. Seniors are finishing applications and some have already been admitted into the college of their choice. Their mindset is that they’ve worked extremely hard for the past four years and, at this point, homework and schoolwork in general becomes irrelevant to them.

With about five months left of school, seniors find it more important to make memories with their friends and families that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Senior Ryan Cariani has already been admitted to multiple colleges and has diagnosed himself with a serious case of senioritis. His daily routine has changed drastically from last year when he was a junior.

“At the beginning of last year, I would go home from school and work on average five hours per day on homework, essays, and projects. Now when I go home, I watch movies and spend most of my days on Netflix and with friends.”

School attire also becomes very much impacted by senioritis. Compare any given freshman girl with any given senior girl and you will be able to see the clear difference that four years of high school makes. As a senior there is no longer anyone to impress and no reason not to dress for absolute comfort.

Senior Megan Flood said “Now that I’m so senior, I don’t really care what other people think of my outfits. My everyday outfit normally consists of sweatpants and sweatshirts and I’m proud of it.” When asked why she never dresses for success, she said “I have no older boys to impress and I know that wearing sweatpants everyday won’t effect which college I go to; therefore, it really doesn’t matter.”

If this is the mentality of seniors in January, it’s scary to think about what they will be like in May or June. So beware of senioritis because it’s spreading faster now than ever before.
