Snow-tober

You’re walking around town going door to door getting candy from each house which would be normal if it was October 31, but it’s not – it’s November 4.
Due to the downed wires, loss of power and dangerous sidewalks resulting from a crazy late October snowstorm, Verona moved its Halloween back a few days.

“I think it’s a good idea that they moved Halloween because they were only trying to keep kids safe” said senior Molly Cummings.

The change of Halloween was the least of their worries for many residents of Verona, some of whom lost power for nearly a week.

“My family and I stayed in a hotel for a few days because our house was way too cold. It took my dad about eight phone calls to finally find an available room” said senior Sarah Frawley.

Verona had over 300 power lines down causing almost every street to lose power for some period of time. The freak storm caused a lot of chaos and resulted in the school district using up its entire allotment of snow days nearly two months before the official start of winter. PSE&G had to bring in trucks from other states in order to keep things under control.

Our town did their best to try and clean up. Day by day town trucks are picking up more and more branches to bring them to the Verona Community Pool where there are piles waiting to be converted into woodchips.

“Still a few weeks passed and there are still branches on my block” said senior Krystina DeGennaro.

A big concern now is what will happen if we have another snow storm; official word from the front office is that any more snow days we have will be taken off of our April break.
