New NHS Members are Honored

Each spring, VHS inducts into the National Honor Society, upperclassmen who have exhibited scholarship, service, leadership, and service throughout their time at VHS.

In previous years, candidates have chosen a teacher to induct them with a speech highlighting the qualities that led to that student’s induction. This year, with an overwhelming 42 students meeting the requirements necessary to become a member of Verona’s chapter of the National Honor Society, the induction ceremony was modified to shorten the ceremony.

This year, teachers still participated if chosen by candidates to induct them, but limited their comments to identifying how they knew the particular student, and in the case of teachers being selected by multiple inductees, introducing them all at once.  Added to the proceedings this year was a candle-lighting ceremony solidifying their induction.

The ceremony was followed by a reception in the cafeteria.

In addition to the 40 juniors and two seniors inducted, 18 of the society’s current members were also present at the ceremony. The 18 seniors were gifted with their gold sash to be worn at graduation.

Congratulations to the 2016 inductees:
