Healthy Cereal Drive Aids Verona Food Pantry

This past week, VHS participated in a Healthy Cereal Drive to help collect nutritious cereals for those in need.

The drive was headed by the VHS peer leaders and Ms. DellaFortuna, who explained that the VHS Healthy Cereal Drive is “a partnership with the Verona Junior Women’s Club who sponsors ‘Verona Fights Hunger Week’, which takes place in October every year.

The drive extended far beyond the walls of VHS and was a town wide effort to help the hungry. All of the donations from the drive went to the Verona food pantry, which helps serve the residents of Verona and beyond.

At VHS, Ms. DellaFortuna led the peer leaders in informing and encouraging their freshmen mentees about the drive, and together they gathered many boxes of cereal to donate to the food pantry. The VHS administration and staff also aided in encouraging donation by making frequent announcements and offering extra credit for bringing in boxes of healthy cereal, as well as bringing in boxes themselves.

Ms. DellaFortuna responded said the response was “amazing!” Students compiled dozens of boxes of healthy, nutritious cereal that will ease the suffering and hunger of the Verona area and beyond.

The town-wide Verona Fights Hunger Week and the Healthy Cereal Drive concluded this past Saturday with a ceremony in front of town hall. The partnership between the VHS Peer Leaders and the Verona Junior Women’s Club was a huge success and Ms. DellaFortuna anticipates many more partnerships between aimed to benefit the Verona community and beyond.
