Two VHS Students Commit Early for Athletics

Two of VHS’s very own student athletes will be continuing their athletic careers in college. Collin Kiernan, a junior at VHS, will be playing baseball at Rutgers University. Senior Amanda Maguire will be attending Montclair State University to continue her lacrosse career.

Imagine knowing where you’re going to college at the beginning of junior year in high school. This situation is a reality for junior baseball pitcher, Collin Kiernan. Collin recently verbally committed to Rutgers University to play D1 baseball. Collin will be receiving about 50% of his total tution in various athletic scholarships.  He has been playing baseball since he was in kindergarten, and currently, he is the main pitcher for VHS’ baseball team and Wladkya, a travel baseball team he plays on. Collin has received varsity letters for baseball and is considered to be “the best pitcher VHS has ever had” by many. When asked if he plans on continuing a baseball career outside of college Collin said, ”I would love to be in the MLB, but who knows what will happen.”

Lacrosse has been a big part of Amanda Maguire’s life since she was in eighth grade. Over the years, Amanda has played for numerous Dew Lax and Tri State teams. She has also been the starting varsity goalie for VHS’ girls lacrosse team for the past three years. Amanda has received awards such as varsity letters, First Team All Conference, and First Team Liberty Division. All Amanda’s achievements in lacrosse caught the attention of Montclair State’s lacrosse Coach. Amanda verbally committed to Montclair State University during the summer going into her senior year, and will be attending Montclair State in the fall of 2016 to continue her lacrosse career and study marketing.
