Basketball Highlights

“We had an excellent season and have a lot to be proud of,” said Coach Eric McElroy whose Verona boys basketball team ended their excellent season falling short to Cresskill in the semifinal game of the North 2, Group 1 section

The team had a 20 and 9 record, becoming only the third boys basketball team in VHS history to win 20 games in a season, and finished first in their conference. The season also featured Coach Mac’s 100th win at VHS.

A highlight of the team’s outstanding journey was the annual holiday tournament.  Senior captain Anthony Huber finished the championship game with 26 points and was named the MVP of the tournament.

But the most memorable night for the boys was when senior Brian Farrell capped an outstanding basketball career at VHS by scoring his 1,000th point and helping lead the team to a victory in the quarterfinal matchup against Bogota. Brian reached this milestone in front of an excited crowd in the VHS gym who was pulling hard for him.

“It was a very exciting moment that I will never forget,” said the senior captain.
