Looking back on the 2014-2015 VHS boys basketball season, head coach Eric McElroy said the season was filled with “a lot of good moments.”

Highlights of the boys season include winning their first county game, making it to the championship game of the Christmas tournament, making it to the semi-finals in the state tournament and eventually losing in the state semifinals against Cresskill, the team that would be the Group 1 Section 1 state champions.

The boys opened their season by traveling to Shabazz in Newark and lost by a mere three points. The boys quickly bounced back and won their next two games against Science Park and Caldwell. The boys had several big wins against Shabazz, Newark Collegiate, and Livingston.

Collectively, the team had 621 rebounds and senior Will Mulderry led the team with 106 rebounds.  The team also blocked 34 shots with junior Dave Gautieri leading the team with 11 blocks. Sophomore Travis Jocelyn led the team in three point shots with 11 shots made.

While the Hillbillies will lose seven seniors next year, Coach McElroy feels confident that a lot of younger players will step up. When looking at next year’s team, Coach McElroy says, “We’ll still be pretty young and we have to work in the off season.”

Senior Mike Moran said the highlight of the season was “making it to semifinals of states.” He said, “The end was sad because I’ve been playing with these boys forever.”
