Girls Lacrosse Recap

From the very beginning of the season, the VHS girls lacrosse team knew it was not going to be easy to accomplish all the goals they set for themselves, and although it didn’t end the exact way they had wished, they finished with a season they could be proud of.

Because they won the SEC Liberty division last spring, this year they moved up to the American Division, which had bigger and better competition. Unlike last season, every single game they played was going to be a challenge and there was no such things as an easy win.

With that said, the level of talent on the girls’ lacrosse team this year may have been the highest it has ever been. Starters on the team ranged from freshmen to seniors, and every single player brought something different to the team.

One thing that was so great about the team this year was that it was led by 11 seniors, specifically by captains Jackie Brozyna, Emilia Frizzi, and Julia Tole. With a senior class this large, there was a lot of experience on and off the field and many players for the younger girls to look up to.

The team ended their season with a very respectable 14-7 record, eventually falling to state ranked Glen Ridge in the Group 1 North 1 sectional quarterfinal.

Some of the highlights of the season include falling to Montclair, both the county champions and a statewide powerhouse, by only one goal, senior captain Jackie Brozyna reaching the 200 goal mark, and making it to the county semifinals for the second year in a row.
