Girls Hoops Looks to Improve

The Verona Girls basketball team is working hard to improve their season from last year. The team is off to a good start this season and they are looking to go further than they did last year.  They currently sit at third in their division with a record of 5-2 and an overall record of 6-4. The team has taken advantage of having so many young girls and they are all helping to develop each player individually to benefit the entire team.

Senior captain Kaitlyn Deo says “I really enjoy being a captain of this team, we are really close this year and it’s a great way to end my high school basketball career.” The team is preparing for some tough competition this season, gearing up for games against West Essex and Glen Ridge who respectively sit at the first and second positions in the division. The team is also preparing to take on their cross-town rivals Cedar Grove on February 17. They are seeking a bit of revenge after falling to CG 38-30 in the Christmas Tournament.

“There’s more team chemistry this year,” says junior Amber Reed. “We work harder on the fundamentals and we make sure to finish every game just as strong as we started out.” The team aspires to do much better than last year after losing in the second round of counties and the first round of states. “It’s a new year and I think we have a lot of talent on the team. I think we can go much further this year,” says Reed.
