Committed: VHS Seniors and Early Decision

Syracuse University, Bucknell University, and Maritime College.  These are just three of the colleges that VHS seniors applied and were accepted early decision to.  Applying “early decision” to a school is a binding deal that means that if a student is accepted, they must attend this school and withdraw all other applications to other schools.

Senior Matt Intili, who will be attending Syracuse University in New York next fall, says he knew this was the school for him when he visited.

“Not much could top it,” he says of the university.  Matt loved the school so much that he knew early decision would be the best choice for him.

“I wasn’t nervous about early decision because it was a reach school for me and if I got in it would be a huge achievement. Applying early decision really helps with the odds of getting accepted.”

Senior Heather Smith, who will be attending Bucknell University in the fall, agrees that applying early decision gives a certain advantage.

“Applying early decision shows you’re committed.”  Heather knew she was committed to Bucknell and that this was the school for her ever since 7th grade.

“When I visited with my sister I fell in love with it and kept comparing other schools that I visited to it.”  Heather knew from the first time she visited that this school was going to be a big part of her future.

Along with falling in love with a school during a visit, some students knew a school was for them by thinking about the opportunities that the school would create for them in the future.

Senior Will Biron, who will be attending Maritime College in the fall, feels that graduating from this school will greatly benefit his future because of the particular programs it offers.

“You make so much money when you graduate,” says Will.  Will’s older brother attended the same college, which led to Will visiting this school six times.  After these multiple visits and future opportunities, Will knew applying early decision was the best thing to do.

It is definitely a weight off of these students’ shoulders knowing that they are definitely going to a school that they love.

“I’m excited to have new experiences,” says Heather.

“I’m most excited for all of the sporting events that I’m going to go to,” says Matt.

Although the thought of being bound to one particular school is scary, these students are very pleased with the outcomes of their decisions and cannot wait to finally attend the schools of their dreams.
