G.O.T. – The Best Show You’ll Ever See

If you haven’t heard of “The Red Wedding” by now you need to reevaluate your taste in television.

This pivotal episode in the HBO hit show Game of Thrones got everyone talking, even those who didn’t watch the show saw clips of the heart-wrenching episode. The Game of Thrones 10-part series is based on the first book in “The Song of Ice and Fire” series by author George R.R. Martin, dubbed “the American Tolkien” by Time Magazine. The premiere date of the fourth installment in the series was just announced as April 6th, and the fan-base is going wild, myself included.

Though I am a self-proclaimed reality TV junkie, I have little to no interest in fantasy books, movies, or regular so TV I can’t understand how I’ve gotten a fatal addiction to a medieval drama with kings, knights, dragons (!!!), and ghosts.

Game of Thrones is set in Westeros , where most people, kings and peasants, are playing angles and looking out for themselves. The web of deceit, power plays, and intrigue induces in viewers an addicting attachment to the redeeming characters, and an indefinite hatred for the soulless characters that leave you grinding your teeth. Episode to episode the cliffhangers have you clicking “Next Episode” on the HBO-Go website before you can consider the repercussions of going to school after being up until 3 a.m. cursing the Lannisters.

Peter Dinklage, mostly recognized as “the angry elf” in Will Ferrell’s hit movie Elf, stars as Tyrion Lannister, and the role has earned him the Emmy and the Golden Globe Award for Supporting Actor. The lovably corrupt Tyrion, though a close second, is not the fan favorite. Every GOT fan as an undying love for the bad*&# Khalessi: Daenerys Targaryen.  Khalessi is a term she acquired by an arranged marriage to a Dothraki warlord, Khal Drogo. As a wedding present she received petrified dragon eggs, a rarity to be handled with extreme caution. After the death of her beloved Drogo, she performs the seemingly impossible and all three of her dragon eggs hatch, giving her the leadership of the Dothraki, the title Khalessi, and the nickname “Mother of Dragons.”

That last paragraph is just a taste of the series, so bear with the confusion. Game of Thrones is one of the best shows, if not the best show, that I have ever seen. I recommend it for everyone, no matter who you are and what you like, because Game of Thrones can hook anyone in the heart and send them on an emotional rollercoaster. I won’t spoil “The Red Wedding” episode for you. But I will say that it left everyone’s jaws slack, grasping for a reason, and maybe even crying. You know nothing now, but winter is coming, and you’ll want to know everything.
