A New Way to Express Yourself

Did you ever read a newspaper article or even something for your English class, and have a strong opinion on it that you wanted to share? And did it bother you that only a few people in that class or a few peers would actually listen?

Well times have changed for opinion writing, especially with the increasing use of internet blogging.

A blog is a website, or part of a website that is constantly updated with new content.  Common blog conversation topics include celebrity gossip, politics, news and technology.  According to ArticleBase.com, there are two main reasons blogging has become so popular in the past 10 years.  One is that everyone wants his or her voice wants to be heard, and everyone wants to give their opinion. Another reason is that new software has made it so easy to do.

What makes blogs so much more popular is that they can be personalized with stories, anecdotes, photos and opinions. “Everyone is looking for a different way to express themselves,” comments sophomore Chloe Strippoli who follows blogs.

Some bloggers have become so popular that followers will visit the blogger’s site every day to keep updated on their lives.  Bloggers can build a personal connection through blogs which keeps blogging interesting, social and mysterious.

The most popular celebrity blogs are Perez Hilton and TMZ.  These websites comment on celebrity gossip, true or false, interesting or mindless.  For example, Perez Hilton blogged about the drama revolving around Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ divorce that interested many. Another blog is the Online Journal which is exactly what it says it is- an online journal of national or global events of all different topics that users can comment and discuss about.

Many blogging websites are also targeted towards teenagers. Tumblr is a site where photos, videos and music can be blogged, as well as writings shared.  Junior Gabby Sapienza believes blogging attracts people because “people can be themselves and express what is on their mind.” Blogs can also talk about colleges and people can comment on their experiences and thoughts on colleges for others to read and respond to.

Blogging has changed the way people can interact online and has changed the way opinions can be spread to one another.  The convenience of blogging has made it popular and enjoyable.
