Microsoft Creates… A Bra?

Imagine if your bra could help you stop eating unhealthy foods.  Seriously, what if your bra could somehow alert you every time you were about indulge in something unhealthy?

Well, this bizarre situation may become a reality.

Microsoft has recently released a prototype of a bra that can help prevent women from binge eating.  No one is sure if it could possibly be successful.

“Its absurd,” senior Amanda Albelin says, “I wouldn’t buy it in a million years.”

The bra works by being “embedded with physiological sensors” that monitor the woman’s emotional moods and combats her overeating. When the bra senses that the wearer is in danger of overeating, it will send an alert to the person’s smartphone to stop them from eating whatever they were about to eat. This alert is designed to encourage her to step away from the refrigerator and to make better diet decisions.

But why a bra?   Wouldn’t there be other items of clothing that could perform such a function? Well, Microsoft felt that they needed a product that would be comfortable when worn for long periods of time. The bra is also ideal because it is close to the heart, so it is easy to collect data and monitor the woman’s heartbeat. The major downfall to the product being a bra is that the prototype Microsoft is working on currently needs to be recharged every 3-4 hours.  Having to take off their bras off in the middle of the day to re-charge, would clearly be a deal breaker for most potential buyers.

“I think this bra is a terrible idea,” junior Nicola Perzichilli explains, “The only thing this bra does is promote eating disorders.”

Researchers conducted a study in which four women wore sensors in their bras for four days. The sensors were used to monitor the women’s heart rate and detect their mood changes. The study resulted in 75% of the women saying the bra was able to accurately detect their moods.

Although Microsoft thinks the new invention will be a great new product, many women are very offended by the bra. Whether or not Microsoft will make the bra into a commercial product is still up for debate. Only time will tell if such a product will be sold in stores.
