Verona DECA Sends a Competitor to California

As of this past weekend, VHS senior Dan Stryker has new plans for the weekend of April 24-27.  Dan will represent Verona and the state of New Jersey when he competes at the 2013 International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California on April 24-27.

When nine VHS students competed in the New Jersey DECA 2013 State Career Development Conference in Cherry Hill, New Jersey from February 24 to February 26, Dan placed first overall in the Business Management & Entrepreneurship event .  His placement in this event qualifies him for the trip to compete in California.

Dan, thrilled about his victory and looking forward to the chance to compete at the national level, joked that he was “channeling Fil,” to capture the victory – a reference to DECA having a national competitor from Verona last year as well – Fil Babalievsky, who is currently attending Yale University.

Other VHS competitors included seniors Tyler Kirkwood and John Cifune who competed in the Marketing Representative Event of Sports & Entertainment Promotional Plan.

Juniors Cristina Calandra and Carley Festa competed in the Written Chapter Team Event of Public Relations Project.

Seniors Olivia Newkirk, Danielle Watkins and Olivia Lewis competed in the Marketing Representative Event of Fashion Merchandising Promotional Plan.

Junior Brett Drozdowski competed in the Business Management & Entrepreneurship event of International Business Plan.

In addition to Dan’s outstanding performance, Verona took honors in two other categories.  Brett Drozdowski made it to the finals (top 6) for his International Business Plan.  Olivia Newkirk earned first place for the written portion of the Fashion Merchandising Promotional Plan event
