A Majestic Musical Experience

It’s not often a high school band has a season like the Verona band did this year.  Providing a majestic musical experience has always been the marching maroon and white’s top priority, and this fall it brought them first place in the West Orange competition and high scores in others.

The Verona marching band played a complicated show from a wide variety of musical genres this season, ranging from Mahler’s symphonies to “Mad World” by the 80’s pop band Tears for Fears.

The season concluded with a massive event at the College of New Jersey.  Thirty eight different marching bands from across the state joined together to produce a festival of musical beauty.  Verona got fifth in the entire competition and third in their division but above all, they explored the depth of the eloquence music can bring.

According to band director Erik Lynch, “unyielding work ethic, perseverance, rigor, grit, and artistry” is what enabled the Verona Band to culminate their season so successfully at the NJMBDA inaugural state championships at the College of New Jersey.

To put it more simply, senior Hilton Sales just said, “Yay!” in reaction to the festival. It seems as though Verona is headed for a bright concert band season with the incredible marching band season behind them .
