ID Badges Make Their Debut at VHS

It’s time for those ID badges to be put to use.

Starting Monday, March 18, Verona High School is implementing a new level of safety, by requesting that students display their ID badges throughout the day.  Students must keep in mind that this is a trial set to end Wednesday, May 1. The results will be reviewed, and recommendations will be made for future safety precautions. If successful, wearing ID badges may be a requirement in the future.

For now, students are encouraged to wear their ID badges. During a homeroom period on Monday, VHS lanyards will be distributed for students to utilize if they wish. They can also clip their IDs to their shirts, belts, or backpacks.

ID badges will be checked upon entering the building, during attendance and safety drills. If any emergencies or evacuations are held, this program will ‘allow for the swift identification of students by school or local enforcement teams.’

VHS is issuing this “Pilot Program” to step up safety standards in the school. Although temporary badges are issued to visitors to VHS, this program will allow faculty and staff to more easily identify visitors without permission to enter the building.

The faculty and staff have already been introduced to and required to participate in this new safety program. Although students will not be disciplined if they choose not to cooperate with the program, they are encouraged to participate.

Any questions about this new program can be directed towards Mr. Cesa or Mr. Galbierczyk.
