Daughter of VHS Teacher Honored as “Hero at Halftime”

Emily Young, the daughter of VHS English teacher Frances Young and a junior at Boston University, was recently honored by the by the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, as a “Hero at Halftime.”

Emily is in the third year of a six-year athletic trainer/doctor of physical therapy program and has volunteered at the Boston Marathon since she was a freshman. This year she was assigned to the main medical tent and was on wheelchair duty. At the time of the blast, she was helping a distressed runner about a block away from the bombing. She returned to the medical tent directly after and did what she could to help.  She was the only one honored at that particular game, although many of her fellow athletic trainers who helped out near the site of the tragedy were honored at other sporting events throughout Boston.
