Luxury Car of the Future

2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the legendary Italian car manufacturer, Lamborghini. To celebrate this landmark of the historic company, Lamborghini has released a concept for its newest model, the Egoista.

The concept is based off the model of the Gallardo, a fighter jet, and a bull, the company’s mascot. Using a model similar to that of the Gallardo, the Egoista, has only one seat and a cockpit which resembles that of a fighter jet and can only be opened from the top. The canopy door coupe was built to resemble a bull.

The interior is made of carbon fiber like other F1 cars and a steering wheel similar to that of the Apache Helicopter. In order to exit the vehicle, the driver must push in the steering wheel, open the canopy, and jump out. The car features a 5.2L V10 engine with 592 horsepower.

The Egoista “represents hedonism taken to the extreme, it’s a car without compromise,” said designer Walter de Silva.

So what is it about cars that makes people go crazy, anyway?  In essence, this million dollar (an approximation because a price has not yet been released) car will drive someone to the grocery store just as well as a $20,000 Honda. Why then, will people spend millions of dollars on Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Bugattis, etc.?

Well this question could be asked about lots of things, such as watches, clothes, and houses.  If they basically all serve the same purpose, why spend all the money?  The answer is simple, people who have money, like to spend it, and want to impress.  The Lamborghini company clearly understands this – the word egoista, means “selfish” in Italian, and there are only producing a very limited number of these cars.

“If I was rich, heck yeah I’d drive a Lamborghini,” said junior Matt Braschi. “If you have the money, why not spend it?” This is the clearly thought process for athletes, celebrities, hedge fund managers and other successful people.   You won’t find a lot of Civics, Camrys and Priuses at those summer parties in the Hamptons.

The car is designed for “hyper-sophisticated people who want only the most extreme and special things in the world,” said De Silva. While this car will definitely impress the ladies, they better find another way back to your place, because the Egoista only has room for one.
