A Chance to Laugh at Shakespeare

When you think about a Shakespearean play you think Tragic!  Romantic!  Or maybe just, Boring!

Well if boring is the first word that comes to mind, you should try this year’s fall Spotlight Players’ production  “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).  The play compresses all of Shakespeare’s plays into about 90 minutes, and is a comedy.

The play moves at breakneck speed through all the plays, basically just making each one the butt of a joke.  Act I crushes together all of Shakespeare’s plays other than Hamlet.  Act II is all Hamlet.   Except it isn’t actually Hamlet, it is just a spoof on Hamlet.   There are no actual parts, there are a lot of props, and the actors you see on stage will be called by their real names.  There will be a great amount of audience participation, and the play’s director, English teacher Frances Young said with excitement “If you want to have fun sit in the front row!”  Mrs. Young could not stress enough how “goofy” and “over the top” this play will be.

Senior, Noelle Park who is in the play, said she believes that preparation for this production is going much better than some past plays, and she is excited about playing to sold-out audiences.  She also wants everyone to know that Austin Williams is going to be in a wig.

The play will be showing November 14, 15 and 16 at 7:30 pm in the VHS auditorium. Adult tickets will be $10, for students and senior citizens the tickets are $8.  Students who choose to go on Thursday will get a ticket discounted to only$5!
