Saving the Whales

I’m sure you’ve seen the signs around the school advertising t-shirts for sale. Perhaps you’ve ignored them or forgotten about them, but if you took the time to read them, you would find they are advocating to raise money to help save the world’s whales.

This sale is being run by the Environmental Club. In charge of it all is junior Emily Petermann. VHS science teacher Paula Ramos is in charge of the club, and senior Rachel Held made the design of the whale. The money made by the t-shirt sales are hopefully going to fund a beach cleanup trip for the club. The trip just needs to be approved. Another portion of the money is going to nonprofit organizations that protect the oceans and ocean conservation charities. If there is enough money left over, the club may symbolically adopt a marine animal from the WWF Organizations.

“The t-shirts are also a way of spreading the word about protecting our oceans and how prominent the issue is today,” said Emily.

Overall, the sale was very successful. The goal was to sell 75 shirts, but they sold 116. They raised over $800 for their purpose. If you still want a shirt, get in touch with anyone in the Environmental Club and do your part to help protect the oceans, whale, and all other marine life.
