VHS Spanish Students Head To Madrid

This summer, several VHS students will be traveling to Madrid, Spain as a part of the Spanish curriculum.  This trip is optional for students and has no prerequisite, but many students have expressed interest. The trip, which spans from June 23rd to July 2nd,  is being organized by Ms. Sonia Useche and Ms. Mirja Paula who are two HBW Spanish teachers.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Deo learned about the trip from her current Spanish teacher, Ms. Jessica Calvo.  Kailtyn knew she wanted to go on this trip because she knew it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“I’m really excited to leave the country and get to experience a new place and culture,” says Kaitlyn.  She is especially excited to spend this trip with close friends.

“Some of my friends are also going on the trip, so I’m excited to make memories with them in Spain.”

While overseas, the students will visit tourist sites, museums, and even take a six-hour bus drive to Costa del Sol. Students have the opportunity to earn college credit through this trip so that they can get a head start on their academic future.  While some students are receiving college credit for the trip, others are just doing it purely for the experience.

“This trip will also prepare me for taking AP Spanish next year as a junior and will look great on college applications,” says Kaitlyn.

This trip is new for the Spanish curriculum here in Verona and many hope it can become a tradition.
